Graduated bindoff

The graduated bind-off creates a smooth edge when you are doing a series of bind-offs. The first bind off row is usually at the edge of the garment piece and is done normally; you will start using the graduated bind-off on the second bind-off row.

When you might use a graduated bind-off—

Binding off shoulder stitches.
Binding off stitches for underarm or sleeve cap shaping.
Binding off pieces that are knitted sideways.

1. Slip first stitch to be bound off. 2. Work next stitch as you normally would. 3. Pass the first stitch over the second stitch.

Continue binding off in normal way. Repeat steps 1-3 as needed.
