Make 1

The Make 1 increase, abbreviated as M1, makes an invisible increase.  A new stitch is added by lifting the yarn between two stitches and working it as a stitch.  This stitch is always worked through the back loop.
This twists the stitch and prevents a hole in your knitting.

Make 1—knit stitch.

Identify yarn float between stitches.

Put left needle under float from front to back.

1

 

 

The float is now on the left needle.  Knit it through the back loop.

Make 1—purl stitch.

Identify yarn float between stitches.
